Wax Removal After Care

Immediate Aftercare (First 24–48 Hours)

Keep Ears Dry: Avoid swimming, showering, or getting water directly into your ear for 24 to 48 hours to prevent infection.

Protect While Showering: When showering, you can use a cotton wool ball smeared with Vaseline in the entrance of the ear canal to act as a seal.

DO NOT USE Cotton Buds: Do not insert cotton swabs, cotton buds, hairpins, or any other objects into your ear, as this can damage the freshly cleaned ear canal.

Avoid Loud Noises: Protect your ears from excessive noise during this time.

Dizziness: You may feel slightly dizzy immediately after the procedure. Sit for a few minutes until this passes, and do not drive if you feel dizzy.

Avoid Flying: If you had severe blockages, it is recommended to avoid flying for 48 hours.

General Advice (First Week)

Hearing and Sensations: You may experience a "hollow" or "whooshing" sensation, or sounds may seem louder than usual. This is normal and usually settles in 24-48 hours.

Use Ear Drops (If Advised): If your clinician advised you to use Earol spray (https://clearwavecare.co.uk/ear-gear/) afterward, follow their instructions to keep the canal hydrated.

In-Ear Devices: Avoid using in-ear headphones or earbuds for a few days.

Cleanliness: Your ears are self-cleaning. Leave them alone to allow them to heal naturally.

When to Seek Medical Advice

Contact your GP if you experience:

  • Pain, tenderness, or discomfort that persists or increases.
  • Discharge, bleeding, or odor from the ear.
  • Increased or persistent tinnitus.
  • A fever or feeling generally unwell.
  • Significant, prolonged dizziness.

Long-Term Prevention

DO NOT Use Cotton Buds:  as these often push wax deeper, creating further blockages.

Olive Oil Maintenance: If you are prone to wax build-up, use 1-2 drops of olive oil (https://clearwavecare.co.uk/ear-gear/) once or twice a week to keep the wax soft.
